Xiaomi has officially taken the wraps off the Redmi Note Prime smartphone in India, which will be sold exclusively via Amazon India as well as mi.com starting 10AM on Tuesday, 15 December. This "phablet" will be priced at Rs 8,499, which makes it a very competitive offering in the budget handset segment.
The handset is produced in Foxconn's Sri City plant in Andhra Pradesh, which makes this the second device from Xiaomi to be produced in India after the Redmi 2 Prime from a couple of months ago.
On the hardware front, the Redmi Note Prime is a marginally upgraded variant of the standard Redmi Note, as the naming rightly suggests. There's no word on the available color variants, but the phone should be sold in the standard white model at launch.
Barring the processor and the internal storage, the Redmi Note Prime shares most of its hardware with the original Redmi Note, including the design.
