Dipa Karmakar is an Indian artistic gymnast who hails from the north eastern state of Tripura. She is First ever Gymnast in history of India who qualified for Olympics games. 1. Born on 9th August 1992 In Agartala, Tripura.
2. She was introduced to Gymnast at the age of 6 by her father who himself was Sports coach at Sports Authority Of India. According to her she was a naughty kid and that’s why his father introduced her to gymnast where she could learn discipline.
3. She has been coached by veteran Bisbeshwar Nandi since. Dipa credits him for all her success. He worked hard with 6 year old kid and made her a sensation in Indian Gymnastics.
4. Dipa had a flat-foot, which is not suitable for gymnastics. It was her coach, Bishweshwar Nandi, who really trained her to get the curve in her feet.
5. Her first greatest achievement came in 2014 when she won Bronze Medal at Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
6. At 2014 Asian Games she finished only fourth in the vault final. She gave tough competition to Top three who were eventually Gold and Silver Medalists of 2012 London Olympics and Bronze Medalist at World Championships respectively.
7. She then qualified for finals of 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships and ranked fifth in the event which was enough to book a birth at Rio Olympics 2016.
8. Dipa Karmakar’s holds record of logging highest score of 15.300 in Produnova – an artistic gymnastics vault. It is a high risk maneuver and only five Gymnast in history has completed Produnova. Only Two In Olympics.
9. She is the recipient of Arjuna Awards for 2015 in Gymnast.
