2017 ICC Champions Trophy : Qualified Teams, Host, Schedule and Format

ICC has confirmed the 8 teams who are playing in 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. The tournament will be played between 1 June to 18 June 2017.


2017 ICC Champions Trophy, this is the 8th edition of Champions Trophy event, first was played in 1998. This is played after every four years and 2 years before the Cricket World Cup. This is the 2nd time when England and Wales host this event in a row. This is the 2nd biggest ICC event after Cricket world cup and played in 50 over format. Top 8 teams in ICC ODI rankings will qualify for this event.


2017 ICC Champions Trophy Info :


This is a regular 50 Over ODI event played after every 4 years and this to be held in England and Wales from 1-18 June 2017. The teams who are qualified for this event is based on the ODI ranking on 30 Sept 2015. India is the winner of 2013 Champions trophy also held in England. Top 8 teams will be divided into 2 Groups of 4 teams in each group. This is the first time when West Indies are out of this event as Bangladesh replace Carribeans in ODI rankings and qualified for this event. Bangladesh return to Champions trophy after 2006, a long gap of 11 years.


  • Host : England & Wales

  • Date : 1st June to 18th June 2017

  • Qualified Teams : Top 8 team in ICC ODI rankings as on 30th September 2015.

  • Format – 50 Over : Round-robin and knockout. 2 groups of four teams. Every team will play 1 match against other three in the group stage. Top 2 qualifying for the semifinals.

  • Group Draw & Schedule : Group draw & schedule will be announced in December 2016.

  • No. of Matches : 15 matches (12 group matches, 2 semi finals and 1 final)

West Indies finished at 9th position as on 30 Sept 2015 the cutoff date is given by ICC. Bangladesh was last played in 2006 in India where they lost against Sri Lanka and West Indies in Group stage and won the only match against Zimbabwe.


On 30 Sept 2017 when the Champions trophy is finished the teams who will be in Top 8 in ICC ODI Rankings will qualify for Cricket World Cup 2019 also to be played in England and Wales. The teams are from Rank 9 to Rank 12 will get a second chance to qualify for last 2 teams spot. 10 Teams will be playing the cricket world cup 2019.
