Mercedes S400 launched in India at Rs 1.31 crore

Mercedes-Benz launched the S400, a new variant of its flagship luxury model, the S-Class, in Hyderabad on Tuesday. Dubbed ‘the best car in the world,’ the S-Class portfolio in India now becomes the most comprehensive, with the addition of the all-new S 400.


The S 400, priced at Rs. 1.31 crore (ex-showroom Hyderabad), was launched by Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes Benz India, and Yashwant Jhabakh, Group Chairman, Mahavir Motors.


Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said, “Mercedes-Benz believes in introducing the latest products and variants in the market at regular intervals, to keep customer interest and curiosity intact in the brand. This strategy we firmly believe has contributed to our unmatched success in India. With the launch of the S 400, we further extend the S-Class model range and also bolster our strong presence in the prestigious S-Class segment. The S 400 symbolises benchmark craftsmanship, affluence and grandeur. No other car stands for the Mercedes-Benz brand promise more than the S-Class.” he said.


Folger further added, “The S-Class has always set standards that have retained its accolade as “the best automobile in the world” with each generation. We are excited to introduce the 9th variant of our flagship model for them. The S 400 will be locally manufactured in our world-class production facility in Chakan, Pune. This is yet another firm affirmation of our vision of ‘make in India’, and our unwavering commitment to the Indian customer in presenting the best of our global offerings.” 


The new S 400 has a powerful 3-litre, V6 petrol engine that produces 333 hp and 480 Nm of peak torque.


Mercedes-Benz India had registered a 32 per cent year-on-year growth by selling 13,502 units during 2015 and expects to sustain the growth momentum in 2016. Last year the carmaker had rolled out 15 models and plans to come out with 12 models in 2016. Of this, thre have been launched and nine more are expected to be introduced during the year.
